Why you need GREAT social media videos

Have you thought about getting video content for your businesses social media pages? No? Well, maybe you should give it another thought. Here's why.

Everything is changing. How people consume media has changed over the last few years.

Digital consumers around the world (Barring China) are now spending an average of 2 hours and 23 minutes per day on social networks. While over 60% of internet users have watched a video on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Snapchat in the past month alone.

Why does this matter?

It matters because a lot of people are consuming media content in this way. The more that they consume, the more effective your Instagram story or Facebook campaign will be.

Videos are also naturally more memorable for users around the world. Resulting in higher engagement for users, meaning a good video is more likely to increase sales than photos or well-written text.

Some of you might be asking what kind of content could work for your business? Luckily there are so many different types of video you can choose from that can work for your specific business needs.

Here are a few types that you can utilise:

  • Explainers

  • Promotional Advert

  • Video Montage

  • Animated

  • Interviews

  • Client Testimonials

  • Vlog (Video Blogs)

  • Tutorials

  • Webinars

  • Round Table Discussions

  • How-to Videos

Here is an example of a successful social media video that we created not so long ago. The client had a struggle getting across the culture of the company. Now, with a visual aid, it's very easy for potential customers to see what a great team they could be working with on future projects.

These videos don't have to be classically corporate. This next video that we created for DR-Moto was a documentary-style shoot with the actor Andrew Shim who plays 'Milky' in 'This is England'.

The client wanted something a bit more than an average talking head, so we spent a week with the product testing it out in Spain with Andrew. The client now has a really engaging video for his website, instead of just a few pictures on his Facebook Page.

Stats and Figures

With Facebook prioritising content that sparks discussion such as videos, I picked out a few interesting stats from Biteable that focus on social media video marketing.

  • A website is 53 times more likely to reach the front page of Google if it includes video. (Insivia)

  • Social media posts with video have 48% more views. (HubSpot)

  • Videos attach 300% more traffic and help to nurture leads. (MarketingSherpa)

  • 62% of people said they were more interested in a product after seeing it in a Facebook Story. (Marketing Land)

  • Facebook has over 8 billion video views per day. (TechCrunch)

  • Video campaigns on LinkedIn have 50% view rates. (LinkedIn)

  • Social video gets shared 1200% more than text and images combined. (Wordstream)

The evidence is clear, if you don't have any visual content to complement your website and facebook page, you are definitely missing out on a swathe of potential customers.
